Course Description
Sound Engineer is a course that aims to establish a strong foundation of sound engineering with both technical and creative approach. Students will be learn principles of sound, visualization of audio information, critical analysis of music from basic to aesthetic approach, extensive knowledge in sound theories, Pro Tools techniques, recording and mixing, live sound, album producing, portfolio making, career strategies and more. This course accommodates all levels of students from complete beginners to professional musicians aiming to extend their knowledge in music and sound in the field of sound engineering.
Record Factory is in partnership with Avid as Avid Learning Partner ( Professional ), and Avid Pro Tools Certified User ( 101, 110 ) are included in the Sound Engineer course. Therefore, all students who take this course will have a chance to become Avid Certified User.

Week 1
Subject : Basic Sound Theory / Visualization of Audio Data
Students will learn : Principles of Sound, Analogue and Digital Audio, Roles and Functions of Sound Equipments, Application of Sound Theories ( i.e. Understanding of Signal Flow Required to Record and Play Sound ), Visualization of the Audio Information Between Speakers as a 3D Image, Analysis of Music Through Storytelling Techniques
Week 2
Subject : Avid Pro Tools Certified User 101 / Signal Processing
Students will learn : History of Computer Music Production, DAW ( Digital Audio Workstation ), Basic Operating Techniques of Avid Pro Tools, Principles of Signal Processing in EQ, Dynamic Processor, Delay and Reverb, Experimentation with Designing Unique Sounds
Week 3
Subject : Avid Pro Tools Certified User 110 / Certification Exam
Students will learn : Application of Week 1 and 2 Learning Goals in Real-life Setting, Advanced Music Production Techniques Through Avid Pro Tools 110, Acquirement of Pro Tools Certified User License
Week 4
Subject : Practical Recording / Mixing & Mastering Master Class
Students will learn : Vocal Recording, Instrumental Recording With Stereo and Multi-Mic Set-Up ( i.e. Guitar, Piano, Strings, Drum ), Hands-on Recording Session with a Professional Sound Engineer, Understanding of the Roles of Mixing in Arrangement and Storytelling, Master Class Experience at the Mixing & Mastering Studio ( Sonic Korea- a mixing and mastering studio known for famous K-pop projects )
Real World Experience
Record Factory Sound Engineer Course is taught in a completely professional setting with the intention of providing real world experience for our students. Our main studio on campus is equipped with SSL AWS924 console, Pro Tools HD system, and 4 isolated recording booths with Yamaha C6 grand piano and other instruments inside. In addition to the main studio, Record Factory also runs 7 Hertz Studio where numerous K-Pop recording and mixing took place. All classes and personal lab time will be held at Avid Lab, and the room is set up with the latest Apple iMac and Pro Tools HD softwares.
Avid Certified Instructor
All Instructors at Record Factory are active musicians and engineers of today’s music industry, domestically or internationally. They came together to provide an effective music education that teaches how to create desired contents utilizing various tools, and manipulate studio and lab experience as close as to “real-life” settings.
Young-gon Kim, Jong-hee Park and Sung-sil Lee are accomplished sound engineers and Avid Certified Instructors who specialize in instructing sound engineering tools using Avid audio products. Avid is the maker of the music industry’s standard DAW known as Pro Tools, and Record Factory is an official Avid Learning Partner Program ( Professional ) that offers Avid Pro Tools Certified User License Exam.
